Job summary

Harvard Library in Cambridge, MA, seeks a Director of Information & Technical Services to lead ITS, oversee 99+ staff and a $14.9M budget, and drive strategic direction across monographic and electronic resources, metadata, and acquisitions.

The Director will collaborate with library leaders, set policies, and guide cross‑sectional operations, reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Discovery and Access. This role emphasizes innovation and service excellence.

Qualifications

• MLS or equivalent from an ALA‑accredited program.
• Minimum 5 years of directly related experience in technical services and academic libraries.
• Minimum 3 years of experience leading librarians and/or staff.
• Experience managing complex budgets.
• Demonstrable experience leading initiatives with integrated library systems and metadata schema.
• Track record in leading high‑performing teams and transformational change.
• Experience managing staff in a hybrid work environment.
• Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead ITS strategic leadership, management, and planning.
• Provide vision and strategic direction for technical services operations across ITS sections.
• Lead, coach, and guide ITS senior managers and coordinate operations and workflows.
• Oversee functional operations of ITS sections with a systems‑level perspective.
• Formulate policies for administration of technical services activities.
• Promote coordinated technical services across Harvard Library and strengthen access to collections.
