Job summary

The E.W. Scripps Company is seeking a Director of Journalism Strategies to lead journalism education programs and philanthropic strategies for the Scripps Howard Fund and Foundation.

You will cultivate relationships with industry leaders and funders to advance the profession and expand program impact. Responsibilities include developing initiatives, managing grants, and coordinating with stakeholders to ensure alignment with strategic objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience preferred.
• 8+ years in journalism, journalism education, philanthropy, fundraising, or program leadership preferred.
• Prior people management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and execution of journalism education programs, philanthropic initiatives, and strategy priorities.
• Build and maintain strategic partnerships with journalism organizations, academic institutions, funders, donors, and industry leaders.
• Serve as a recognized leader in journalism education and philanthropy, providing insights on trends and opportunities.
• Collaborate with internal, board, and external stakeholders to implement innovative initiatives for current and future journalists.
• Represent the Fund and Foundation in industry associations, conferences, and external partnerships.
• Develop and execute fundraising and donor engagement strategies to expand mission impact and diversify revenue sources.
• Direct journalism grantmaking activities including evaluation, award administration, and grantee relationships.
• Monitor and evaluate program and grant performance; provide recommendations for alignment with objectives.
• Oversee journalism programs and initiatives like the Scripps Howard Journalism Awards, internships, and experiential learning.
• Lead the journalism education team with strategic direction, coaching, and resource planning.
• Prepare board reports and present updates and strategic recommendations.
