Position Overview

The Director, IT will play a critical role in ensuring IT’s ability to support Velo3D’s user growth and physical expansion. This hands-on role will be responsible for all areas of User Services across multiple locations, along with project management, security and compliance, and general department management responsibilities.

Essential Job Functions

  1. General IT Management:
    • Support a growing technical and non-technical user base.
    • Design and implement scalable, usability-focused user experiences using latest technologies like Virtualization, MDM, SSO, cloud services.
    • Lead the User Services team, embodying Velo3D’s principles and values.
    • Develop processes supporting company growth, including site expansion and service expansion.
    • Design support models and response plans for multiple sites.
    • Establish hardware and software standards organization-wide.
    • Coordinate desktop support activities, including installations, upgrades, and configurations.
    • Manage training and communication programs for computer users.
    • Oversee multi-site Help Desk activities and personnel.
    • Manage training/development for direct reports.
    • Track maintenance renewals, subscriptions, and user services metrics.
    • Contribute to budget management for user activities.
    • Design and oversee IT helpdesk functionalities.
  2. Network Management:
    • Provide Tier 2 support and act as technical escalation point.
    • Support and build Velo3D’s IT infrastructure, both in cloud and on-premises.
    • Improve software systems, implement automation scripts, and maintain documentation.
    • Enhance monitoring, alerting, and network troubleshooting systems.
    • Participate in building and troubleshooting cloud and site networks.
    • Provide technical leadership and knowledge transfer.
  3. Security and Compliance:
    • Design security policies and controls to ensure confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
    • Lead security compliance assessments (SOX, ISO, NIST, CIS).
    • Work with leadership to address security risks and audit findings.
    • Manage security-related documentation and responses to RFPs and questionnaires.
    • Track and remediate audit gaps and manage security risks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, MIS, Computer Science or related field.
  • At least 10 years of IT experience, including managing service delivery in Help Desk/User Services.
  • Experience managing multi-site Service Desk/Help Desk teams.
  • Deep knowledge of desktop OS, Active Directory, Office 365, VMWare, MDM, RMM.
  • Experience with ITSM tools, preferably ServiceNow.
  • Understanding of AV systems, Zoom, SSO, multi-factor authentication.
  • ITIL certification is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, including remote communication.
