Position Summary:

The Director of IT will oversee all aspects of the company’s technology function—including infrastructure, cybersecurity, cloud services, enterprise applications, and end-user support—at a pivotal moment as we prepare for a public listing. This role requires a hands-on leader who can balance daily operations with strategic readiness for SOX compliance, ITGC controls, and scalable growth. This is a new role in a lean, execution-focused biotech environment (~50–100 employees). The Director will directly manage external vendors and consultants while building internal IT capabilities over time.

Key Responsibilities:

  • IT Strategy & Leadership: Develop and execute an IT strategy aligned with business goals, supporting R&D, regulatory compliance, and corporate growth.
  • deSPAC & Public Readiness: Lead implementation of ITGC controls, audit-ready documentation standards, change management policies, and evidence collection in support of SOX and SEC compliance. Coordinate closely with auditors, legal, and finance to ensure IPO readiness.
  • Infrastructure & Operations: Oversee the maintenance, security, and scalability of IT infrastructure, including networks, cloud services, and on-premises systems.
  • Cybersecurity & Compliance: Implement cybersecurity best practices, identity and access management (IAM) protocols, role-based access controls (RBAC), and data classification standards. Maintain incident response plans and business continuity processes aligned with ISO/NIST frameworks.
  • User Support & Productivity: Manage IT helpdesk services, providing high-quality support to researchers, scientists, and corporate users.
  • Enterprise Applications: Administer and optimize business applications such as Laboratory Systems, Finance, Procurement, R&D and collaboration tools.
  • GxP Systems Support: Collaborate with QA/Regulatory to maintain validated systems supporting GxP functions (e.g., LIMS, eTMF, CTMS).
  • Cloud & Data Management: Oversee cloud-based services, data storage, backup, and disaster recovery planning.
  • IT Governance & Budgeting: Establish IT policies, best practices, and budget planning for technology investments.
  • Vendor & Stakeholder Management: Evaluate, negotiate, and manage relationships with third-party vendors, service providers, and software suppliers.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 7-10 years of IT experience, preferably within the biotech, pharmaceutical, or life sciences sector.
  • Demonstrated experience building and scaling secure IT infrastructure in GxP and SOX environments.
  • Strong understanding of ITGCs, audit preparation, SOX documentation, and regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with GxP, HIPAA, GDPR, FDA 21 CFR Part 11, and ISO 27001 frameworks.
  • Deep knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, O365, OKTA), IAM tools, and secure collaboration environments.
  • Experience with laboratory, finance, and R&D systems common in clinical-stage biotech companies.
  • Hands-on, pragmatic problem-solver who thrives in ambiguity and can scale IT intelligently without overengineering.
  • Hands-on experience in IT security, networking, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong problem-solving, strategic thinking, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
