Job summary

MassMutual in Springfield, MA or Boston, MA seeks a Director of Insurance Accounting to lead the Insurance Controllership team, drive close processes, strengthen controls, and deliver accurate financial reporting.

You will partner with Finance, Investments, Reinsurance, Treasury, and Actuarial to support strategic decisions and regulatory filings while developing leaders and advancing continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• CPA, MBA or equivalent preferred.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience in large corporate or public accounting environments.
• 3+ years of insurance accounting experience including GL processing and month-end close.
• 3+ years applying U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting principles.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the accounting team, including oversight of outsourced partners.
• Ensure timely close processes for complex insurance accounting activities.
• Analyze financial results, identify trends, and communicate insights to leadership.
• Build partnerships with Treasury, Investment Accounting, Reinsurance accounting, Reporting, and Actuarial teams.
• Present financial results and recommendations to senior leadership.
• Maintain a strong internal control framework and regulatory compliance.
• Oversee insurance accounting activities with external service providers to ensure control execution.
• Lead accounting policy implementation for new Institutional Solutions products and transactions.
• Collaborate on GAAP and statutory accounting guidance with Accounting Policy.
