Job description

Location: Midtown Manhattan (Hybrid – 3 days/week in office)

Salary: $120,000–$130,000 + discretionary annual bonus

Reports To: Senior Vice President, Development

Supervises: Senior Manager, Institutional Giving

About the Role

The Director, Institutional Giving will take a leadership role in the creation, planning and execution of institutional fundraising strategies for annual giving and special support. The Director will bring a high level of creativity, energy and leadership to this role and be an active thought partner in developing strategic solutions to grow and diversify institutional revenue (currently generating $4.8M) to support Citymeals general operations and overall programming. Responsibilities include relationship management, grant identification, grant writing and prospect research and qualification to identify and cultivate new sources of funding.

Key Responsibilities
  • Cultivate, steward, and solicit a growing portfolio of private foundation and corporate foundation donors and prospects.
  • Collaborate across departments to execute strategic fundraising efforts for our Innovation & Impact Fund in support of our 2040 goal to end older hunger in New York City.
  • Supervise and mentor the Senior Manager, Institutional Giving providing guidance on proposal development, stewardship and portfolio management.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner in efforts to broaden a base of foundation and corporate funding by identifying and cultivating new prospects and maximizing levels of support from current institutional donors.
  • Work with the Sr. Manager to execute meaningful engagement opportunities, including draft letters of inquiry, proposals, reports, acknowledgment letters and other development communications.
  • Work closely within External Affairs team to implement appropriate recognition opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with Finance and Programs colleagues on supporting materials and grant budgets for proposals and reports.
  • Prepare planning and strategy briefings for donor visits with foundation and corporate prospects and donors. Meetings, site visits, and phone conversations with foundation and corporate prospects and donors.
  • Manage and maintain accurate record of stewardship and ensure that Raiser’s Edge records and relationship details are up to date.
  • Work closely with the Communications and Programs teams to help create periodic updates on Citymeals programmatic work — both verbally and in writing.
  • Generate timely and personalized acknowledgments to corporate and foundation funders throughout the year. Respond to inquiries from foundations and corporate prospects and donors providing broad ranging information about Citymeals mission, programs and impact.
  • Contribute to the overall work of the development team, managing additional projects and selected funder proposals as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree plus minimum 8 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, corporate relations and/or related areas.
  • Extensive knowledge of foundation and corporate foundation/philanthropy funding communities. Familiarity with New York City philanthropic community is a plus.
  • Proven track record in relationship-building, donor cultivation and securing support from corporate and foundation sources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong organizational and collaboration skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and shift priorities simultaneously and meet grant and reporting deadlines, as well as internal deliverables.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial data with the facility to understand complex budgeting models.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft office and Excel; knowledge of Raiser’s Edge NXT, FoundationSearch, and Monday.com preferred.
  • Available on evenings and weekends to take on extended hours as business needs demand.
