Job summary

Divergent in Torrance, CA is seeking a Director of Automation & Controls Engineering to lead the automation backbone of our next generation of machines and factories. You will define architectures for PLCs, HMI/SCADA, robotics and safety systems, build scalable teams, and drive engineering excellence from concept through production release in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

This is a high-impact leadership role shaping how we move faster, automate more, and reduce operator dependency

Qualifications

10+ years of experience in industrial automation, controls, robotics, or complex automated equipment development.
Proven experience leading engineering organizations and delivering complex, cross-functional machine or factory automation programs.
Strong technical foundation across PLCs, electrical systems, networking, motion control, robotics, and machine safety.

Responsibilities

Lead delivery of electrical, PLC, HMI, SCADA, motion control, robotics, and machine-safety systems from requirements through validated production release.
Lead engineering execution to deliver systems on schedule and to quality and production-readiness requirements.
Establish technical governance and engineering rigor to improve consistency, reliability, and maintainability.
