Boehringer Ingelheim is seeking a Director Early Safety Immunology to lead immune safety across discovery, preclinical and clinical development, developing models and technologies to support portfolio decisions.

The role emphasizes mentoring staff, collaboration across Nonclinical/Early Safety Sciences, CPS TAs, CI and Discovery Research, and adherence to regulatory expectations to inform senior leadership decisions.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Immunology or equivalent with roughly ten (10) years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Extensive experience in laboratory-based immune safety assessments and mechanistic derisking studies, and ability to lead scientists.
  • Strong management and supervisory skills with proven experience in leading and developing staff, including senior scientists.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to operate in dynamic, evolving environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a team conducting investigative toxicology studies (focus immune safety) across discovery, preclinical and clinical development.
  • Provides scientific oversight of Early Safety Immunology, including strategy, context, evaluating output/reports, and delivering results to senior management.
  • Maintains operational control of functions within Early Safety Immunology, including balancing assignments, workload, standards/compliance, and resource distribution.
  • Guides interpretation of computational, molecular, in vitro, cellular and immunotoxicology data for mechanisms of immune safety liabilities and development of biomarkers/tools.
  • Maintains up-to-date expertise and identifies opportunities/trends to develop new avenues of work.
  • Ensures fit-for-purpose and modality-driven early safety strategies for immune concepts.
  • Provides bottom lines and recommendations to senior management (Global Head, VP & above).
  • Collaborates with IU and other teams to drive early identification and mitigation of safety risks.
  • Complies with ICH, FDA, EPA, OSHA and company regulations.
