Job summary

Biogen is seeking a Senior Director, Immunology Early Development Strategy & External Innovation to lead strategic initiatives bridging discovery and early development across immunology programs. You will partner with diverse teams to shape portfolio priorities, evaluate external opportunities, and drive value creation from preclinical through proof-of-concept efforts.

You will influence senior leaders, manage cross-functional programs, and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards

Qualifications

• MD, MD/PhD, PhD, PharmD, or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant biomedical discipline.
• At least 15 years in pharmaceutical or biotechnology drug development with progressive leadership responsibilities.
• Expertise in immunology and immune-mediated diseases across related fields.
• Experience bridging discovery and translational science to clinical development.
• Experience evaluating external opportunities including BD, licensing, partnerships, or ventures.
• Strong understanding of scientific, clinical, regulatory, and commercial factors.
• Ability to influence stakeholders in a complex matrixed environment.
• Excellent communication and executive presence for decision-ready recommendations.
• Track record leading cross-functional teams and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Act as senior advisor and delegate to shape portfolio and external priorities in Immunology.
• Lead strategy for transitions, early development planning, and portfolio decisions.
• Serve as delegated clinical development leader for select programs to accelerate value creation.
• Drive evaluation of external opportunities integrating science, clinical, strategy, and commercial views.
• Develop evidence-based governance and investment recommendations for leadership.
• Foster collaborations across Research, Development, Commercial, Strategy and external partners.
• Align cross-functional stakeholders to translate strategy into decisive action.
• Mentor colleagues and strengthen organizational capability through thought partnership.
• Ensure activities comply with regulatory, quality, ethical, and compliance standards.
