Job summary

The City of West Sacramento is seeking its first Director of Homeless Response & Support to lead a newly established department dedicated to reducing and preventing homelessness in the community. Reporting to the Assistant City Manager – Community Services, the director will build the team, define programs, partnerships, and performance measures to shape the City’s approach for years to come.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in public administration or related field; a master’s degree is desirable.
• Seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in homeless services, housing, public health, or public administration, including at least three (3) years in a management or senior supervisory role.
• Experience working with homeless response systems, encampment response, or shelter operations in a public agency setting is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the programs, services, and operations of the Homeless Response and Support Department.
• Oversees encampment response and resolution activities, including field crews and compliance with laws and policies.
• Directs street outreach, engagement, and case management services to ensure trauma‑informed, person‑centered care linked to housing resources.
