Job description

Private equity is a strategic growth channel for Sage. PE firms increasingly shape finance, accounting and ERP decisions across their portfolio companies. The Director, Head of Global Private Equity leads Sage’s PE go-to-market motion – using PE sponsors as a channel to sell into, retain and expand their portfolio companies – and owns the North America PE team, strategy, sponsor relationships, pipeline and programmes. The role also provides craft leadership to PE teams in other regions, including UK and Ireland, so Sage runs a consistent PE motion everywhere.

In this role, you will act as the ‘quarterback’ across Sales, Channel, Marketing, Product, Delivery, Customer Success, RevOps and strategic partners (including AWS and Marketplace Partner Program ISVs) to make Sage the preferred finance and accounting technology partner for sponsor-backed companies.

This is a Hybrid role based on-site 3 days per week in a North American office.

Director, Head of Global Private Equity
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
Lead the North America PE business
  • Set and own North America PE strategy, FY goals and OKRs (new customer acquisition and in-life), and report performance through the monthly business review.
  • Lead, develop and grow the North America PE team across the US and Canada, including territory design, headcount planning and performance reviews.
  • Own the North America PE marketing budget and event calendar; represent Sage as a speaker and sponsor at PE industry events and host sponsor roundtables and dinners.
Provide craft leadership across regions
  • Act as the PE practice lead for Sage: set common standards, sponsor tiering, MSA templates, playbooks and enablement that other regions can adopt.
  • Coach and support PE leaders in other regions, including UK and Ireland, through a regular cross-region PE forum, without direct line or P&L accountability for those teams.
  • Coordinate on global sponsors that span regions, so coverage, introductions and commercial terms stay consistent.
Own strategic sponsor relationships
  • Personally cover a book of Tier 1 PE firms (e.g., Northeast US sponsors) and oversee coverage of 60+ tiered sponsor relationships across North America.
  • Negotiate and manage PE master service agreements (MSAs) and preferred commercial terms, including expanding MSA scope (e.g., HCM) with Legal and regional MD approval.
  • Serve as executive escalation point for PE-backed customers and their partners, resolving friction that puts portfolio-wide relationships at risk.
Drive sponsor-backed revenue
  • Source and influence new opportunities through sponsor referrals, portfolio mapping and introductions; support account teams on active sponsor-backed deals.
  • Build joint PE motions with strategic partners – e.g., an AWS + Sage PE activation to drive Sage Intacct adoption via AWS Marketplace, and joint GTM with select MPP partners.
  • Extend the PE motion beyond Sage Intacct (e.g., Sage X3) and into targeted verticals such as healthcare.
Enable the field and channel
  • Build and deliver PE enablement for direct sales, channel leaders and VAR PE BD teams (including SKO and Sage Future for Partners).
  • Own the PE & Channel GTM playbook and related AI/agentic tooling that helps partners map portfolio companies to Sage products and services.
Build the operating foundation
  • Champion in-life retention for PE portfolio customers, including concession ROI analysis and business cases to executive leadership.
  • Drive Salesforce reporting and dashboards to track PE impact across North America, using a common model other regions can adopt.
  • Shape governance (e.g., multi-compete opportunities when PE is involved), new offers (e.g., PE managed services) and product-gap input to Product leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Significant experience in finance/accounting technology, ERP or SaaS, private equity, investment banking, consulting or strategic alliances, including people leadership.
  • Established network with PE deal teams, operating partners, value creation teams and portfolio CFOs.
  • Track record of negotiating complex commercial agreements and influencing executive and board-level stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of the ERP and office-of-the-CFO software landscape and competitors.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional execution and influence peers in other regions without direct authority, in an entrepreneurial, often ambiguous environment.
  • Willingness to travel for sponsor meetings, customer engagements, partner events and conferences.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or a related field. (Note: Private Equity network and experience, Business development and alliance leadership, and Commercial and GTM capability are more valuable than a degree)
What Success Looks Like
  • Growth in sourced and influenced revenue from sponsor-backed new customers, plus retention and expansion of in-life PE portfolio customers.
  • Tier 1 sponsors in active, multi-threaded strategic engagement, with MSAs in place and renewed on time.
  • Joint PE programs with AWS and key partners producing measurable portfolio transactions.
  • Other regions using a consistent PE playbook, tiering and MSA approach, with active cross-region collaboration on shared sponsors.
  • Full, trusted visibility of PE impact in Salesforce and the MBR, and a scaled, engaged North America team.
