Job description

Job Summary:

Contributes to policies and procedures to ensure team development, implementation, and oversight of strategies and programs to enable compliance with applicable federal, state, and local Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) regulatory requirements, and organizational EH&S and Workplace Safety (WPS) policies and standards. Shapes and executes strategies for Environmental Health and Safety programs to ensure success. Ensures employee safety and protection by influencing strategic goals for EH&S programs and training efforts. Establishes guidelines and procedures for resolving issues and acts as a resource on impactful EH&S and WPS matters. Conducts strategic planning for identifying, analyzing, documenting, and communicating workplace environmental health and safety risk trends. Prepares high-quality analysis and reports on the state of environmental health and safety. Advances risk control by driving improvements in workplace safety and compliance, and evaluating the effectiveness of safety measures.
Essential Responsibilities:

  • Prepares individuals for growth opportunities; builds internal networks; solicits and acts on performance feedback; drives collaboration for goal setting and coaching. Oversees recruitment, development, and performance management; stays updated on industry trends; shares best practices; motivates and empowers teams; aligns resources with business objectives; provides guidance on difficult decisions.

  • Oversees operations of multiple units by identifying needs; manages work assignments; translates strategy into requirements; ensures products/services meet expectations; gains support; makes decisions; sets standards; measures progress; resolves issues; communicates goals; analyzes resources and costs; prioritizes resources; removes obstacles; develops contingency plans.

  • Drives compliance by developing policies and strategies for EH&S regulations; leads interactions with regulatory agencies; fosters a culture of compliance; develops best practices for regulatory reporting; communicates regulatory impacts to leadership.

  • Supports training and continuous learning in EH&S; drives safety education programs; influences strategic training goals; ensures competency assessments; promotes a culture of safety and learning.

  • Directs safety practices by educating employees and stakeholders; promotes safety culture; investigates incidents; shapes safety standards; reviews and refines safety programs; evaluates systems for safety improvements.

  • Manages health and safety programs by executing strategic goals; conducting assessments; shaping programs based on analyses and industry best practices.

  • Recognizes hazards and risks; develops strategic plans for assessments and trend analysis; ensures documentation and communication for safety tracking.

  • Advances risk control by promoting safety innovations; evaluates large-scale change initiatives.

  • Demonstrates continuous learning; oversees talent recruitment and development; manages performance expectations.

  • Champions service quality by developing response guidelines; collaborates with administration and staff on EH&S and WPS matters.

  • Motivates and empowers teams; maintains a skilled workforce aligned with business goals.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • At least 7 years of leadership experience with direct reports.
  • Bachelor's degree in EH&S, Natural Science, Engineering, Emergency Management, or related; AND either 8 years of experience in EH&S or risk management, OR 11 years of related experience.

  • Safety Professional Certificate, Health Safety Professional Certificate, or Industrial Hygienist Certificate within 24 months of hire.
