Job summary

Northern Trust in Chicago, IL, seeks a Director of Platform Security Engineering and Operations to lead enterprise security platforms and drive strategy, governance, and execution. You will guide teams across zero-trust, SASE/SSE, network security, vulnerability management, and AI safeguards, delivering secure, audit-ready outcomes.

You will partner with risk, audit and infrastructure leaders, shaping standards, runbooks, and performance metrics to reduce risk while ensuring regulatory

Qualifications

• 15+ years in IT/cybersecurity, cloud, or platform engineering, with leadership in enterprise security programs.
• Deep expertise in vulnerability scanning, zero trust, network security and web security architectures.
• Excellent executive communication, risk tradeoffs, audit inquiries and cross-team alignment.

Responsibilities

• Lead Security Platform Engineering Teams and set technical/operational direction.
• Define goals, metrics, and runbooks to ensure delivery, assurance, and risk reduction.
• Coordinate cross-functional security initiatives with engineering, risk, audit and operations.
• Ensure audit and regulatory support with strong evidence quality and traceability.
• Oversee health, upgrades, capacity, resilience, and vendor management across the stack.
