Job summary

Abbott seeks a hands-on technical leader to own architecture, engineering, and reliability of the enterprise AI Platform. You will partner with AI PMs and engineering teams to scale GenAI and agentic systems, growing a platform engineering team as a player‑coach.

You’ll define reference architecture, build a model gateway, and deliver a GenAI runtime with observability, security, and governance. Join a team delivering critical health tech infrastructure.

Qualifications

• Strong software engineering in Python and at least one of TypeScript, Go, or Java.
• Hands-on experience designing and operating enterprise AI/GenAI platforms.
• Deep technical understanding of model gateways, GenAI runtimes, RAG, agent registries, evaluation, observability, traceability, guardrails, identity, and platform governance.
• Experience with containers and orchestration (Kubernetes), IaC, CI/CD, cloud services, secrets management, and production SLOs/on‑call.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve reference architecture for AI control plane, paved-road services, SDKs, templates, and developer experience.
• Design and build a model gateway supporting multi-provider routing, quota, tenant isolation, key management, and cost allocation.
• Deliver a GenAI runtime for model serving, retrieval-augmented generation, vector/search, and tool interoperability.
• Own technical design of model, agent, prompt, and tool registries, including versioning and auditability.
• Build platform observability and traceability for prompts, model calls, tool calls, and agent steps.
• Establish platform engineering practices using Kubernetes, IaC, CI/CD, and capacity management; define SLOs and on-call.
