RCX Sports is experiencing an explosive phase of growth, expanding its impact on youth sports across the country and into new international markets. Through a platform-driven approach, we empower a growing network of League Operators to deliver safe, organized, and—most importantly—fun recreational league experiences across NFL FLAG, MLS GO, Jr. NBA Leagues, NHL Street, and emerging pilot programs. Our evolving platform model is designed to provide League Operators with the resources, training, technology, and support they need to enhance and expand the youth sports experience at scale.

The Director, Engineering plays a crucial role in aligning technology with business goals by ensuring efficient, scalable, and high-quality software development. By leading a high-performing engineering team, this role directly contributes to faster product innovation, improved system reliability, and overall business scalability, helping the company stay competitive in the market.

You will be responsible for overseeing the technical direction, development, and delivery of software projects within the engineering team. They work closely with senior engineers, developers, and cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality code, scalable architectures, and efficient software development practices.

Job Responsibilities:
  1. Driving Technical Excellence: Ensures high-quality code, scalable architecture, and reliable systems to improve performance and reduce downtime.
  2. Enhancing Product Development Speed: Uses agile methods and DevOps practices to speed up development and deliver products faster.
  3. Mentoring and Developing Talent: Strengthens the engineering team through leadership, technical guidance, and career development, promoting innovation and efficiency.
  4. Aligning Tech with Business Goals: Partners with product management to create technical solutions that support business needs and drive company growth.
  5. Improving System Scalability & Security: Builds infrastructure and software that grows with user demand while maintaining security and meeting compliance standards.
  6. Development & Quality: Set and maintain best practices for software development, deployment, and testing.
  7. Strategic Leadership: Work with product management and stakeholders to create business-aligned technical solutions.
  8. Technical Planning: Guide architectural decisions and technical planning to ensure systems stay maintainable as they grow.
  9. System Oversight: Track and improve system performance, security, and reliability.
  10. Team Culture: Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages professional development, teamwork, and innovation among staff members.
  11. Continuous Improvement: Foster a culture of continuous improvement by soliciting feedback from team members and stakeholders. Implement best practices in team management and goal execution, driving innovation in processes and strategies.
Education & Experience:
  • Minimum: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience with proven leadership in software development.
  • 7+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 2-3 years in a leadership role.
  • Expertise in backend development, cloud infrastructure, and database management.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as PHP, Python, Java, or Node.js.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and DevOps best practices.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Additional Position Details:
  • Travel: Less than 10% of the time
  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday (occasional nights and weekends)
  • Work Location: Remote
  • Reports to: Vice President of Program Strategy and Experience
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: Will oversee full-time direct reports
