Job Title: Director, Digital Platforms Transformation

Job Purpose

The Director, Digital Platforms Transformation will own the strategy, delivery, and continuous improvement of technology platforms that enable core internal workstreams such as Herc Rentals' logistics, fuel, operations, and damage recovery operations. This role will lead a team while partnering closely with senior business stakeholders, operations leadership, and technical teams to ensure logistics applications and related systems across all platforms — mobile and web — effectively support scheduling, dispatch, fleet movement, transportation workflows, and operational efficiency across the enterprise.

This leader will set the roadmap and long-term vision for key internal digital applications, and will oversee platform enhancements, defect resolution, backlog prioritization, budget planning, vendor management, and project execution across the technology portfolio. The role requires deep expertise in agile delivery methodologies, business process transformation, application lifecycle management, and cross-functional leadership. The successful candidate will bring proven experience leading technology organizations in a structured IT environment, driving enterprise-level quality and execution, managing teams and budgets, and ensuring platforms continue to evolve to meet changing business needs.

How you will make a difference:

• Own Platform Strategy and Delivery: Define and drive the roadmap for internal digital platforms with a strong focus on logistics and damage recovery, ensuring timely delivery of system enhancements, projects, and defect resolutions that support logistics operations and improve enterprise performance.
• Champion Operational Excellence: Partner with senior operations leadership to align technology capabilities with strategic business priorities, field needs, and service expectations.
• Elevate Quality and Stability: Set the standard for application quality, release readiness, issue tracking, and continuous improvement efforts across all internal digital platforms.
• Lead Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build and lead relationships across business users, technical teams, QA, and support resources to ensure business requirements are translated into effective, scalable solutions.
• Provide Executive Leadership and Visibility: Deliver regular updates to executive and IT leadership on program progress, strategic priorities, risks, and overall platform health, and represent logistics technology in senior leadership forums.

What you will do...

Business and Platform Leadership

• Own and communicate the strategic vision and business requirements for internal transformation initiatives and key internal applications, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and operational priorities.
• Partner with Logistics, Operations, Fleet, vendor partners, and senior IT leadership to identify opportunities for process improvement, innovation, and better platform performance.
• Own the strategic direction, roadmap, and investment priorities for logistics-related applications, ensuring alignment with enterprise business value.
• Serve as the primary liaison between executive business stakeholders and technical leadership, translating operational needs into actionable, funded plans.
• Driver innovations pipeline for logistics, damage recovery, and other critical internal operations.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of platform managers, business analysts, and delivery resources.

Backlog, Enhancement, and Defect Management

• Own platform backlogs, enhancement requests, and defect prioritization strategy to support timely and effective delivery across the portfolio.
• Direct agile delivery activities including planning, story refinement, sprint support, and release coordination across multiple teams.
• Oversee production issue and defect resolution efforts, ensuring timely follow-up, root cause visibility, and executive-level communication with stakeholders.
• Direct the planning and execution of enhancement cycles, maintenance releases, and system updates across the logistics platform portfolio.

Project Delivery and Oversight

• Provide executive oversight for digital platforms IT projects and programs, including scope, budget, milestones, risks, open items, and resource coordination.
• Direct technical teams and external or offshore resources to ensure deliverables meet business needs, quality standards, timelines, and budget targets.
• Monitor program-level progress and ensure dependencies, issues, and risks are identified, escalated, and managed effectively.
• Lead major initiatives related to logistics platform enhancements, integrations, and enterprise-level operational process improvements.

Quality, Compliance, and Process Improvement

• Establish and track quality metrics for story quality, test readiness, defect trends, and release performance across the portfolio.
• Ensure work is performed within a structured IT environment and adheres to compliance, governance, and change control processes.
• Champion best practices in documentation, testing, requirements management, and delivery execution across the organization.
• Identify and lead initiatives to improve workflows, increase efficiency, and enhance the user experience across internal platforms.

Communication and Team Collaboration

• Prepare and deliver regular program and platform updates for executive business and IT leadership presentations.
• Collaborate effectively with developers, QA teams, analysts, product owners, and operations stakeholders to drive successful outcomes.
• Direct resource coordination, team alignment, and organizational planning to ensure projects and enhancements are delivered with quality and consistency.
• Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and customer-focused service delivery.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience working in an IT environment supporting application delivery, business analysis, QA, and project execution, including 3+ years in a people leadership or management capacity.
• Experience leading or managing business applications related to logistics, transportation, dispatch, scheduling, fleet operations, or related operational platforms required.
• Proven background leading agile project delivery methodologies, backlog management, and enhancement planning at scale.
• Experience driving IT functional analysis, business process review, use cases, and functional specification documentation.
• Experience with user story design and management.
• Demonstrated experience leading project activities and working with cross-functional technical and business teams, including senior executives.
• Experience managing budgets and overseeing development resources, including external or offshore teams, required.
• Formal training in Business Analysis, Agile, and/or Project Management preferred; PMP, SAFe, or equivalent certification a plus.

Skills

• Strong understanding of application delivery, enhancement planning, and defect resolution processes at an enterprise level.
• Experience with agile tools and collaboration platforms such as Jira and Confluence.
• Knowledge of software QA processes, test coordination, and release management.
• Strong MS Office skills including Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, and Word.
• Ability to communicate technical and strategic ideas effectively to executive audiences, both orally and in writing.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with keen attention to detail and follow through.
• Ability to document and articulate business requirements and strategic plans clearly and effectively.
• Ability to meet critical deadlines for high‑visibility programs and lead teams effectively under pressure.
• Ability to prioritize and direct execution across multiple workstreams in a fast‑paced environment.
• Able to lead within a structured IT environment and enforce compliance and change control processes.
• Experience with SQL, reporting tools, or logistics‑related systems preferred.
• Demonstrated people leadership, coaching, and team development skills.

Education

• Bachelor's Degree in MIS, Computer Science, Business, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
