Job summary

Jobtailor seeks a Lead Data Scientist to guide a team of experts in translating business problems into statistical, machine learning, simulation, and optimization solutions. You will deliver scalable models and actionable insights that drive automation, revenue growth, and risk reduction.

You will partner with executives to shape projects, manage a diverse portfolio, and ensure compliance with model risk policies while steering adoption of advanced analytics in a fast-paced enterprise.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or 4 years of relevant education/experience
• 8 years in predictive modeling, model governance, ML and large data analysis; OR advanced degree + 6 years
• 3 years of direct management experience
• Strong communication skills and ability to translate complex technical information for diverse audiences
• Experience with SQL, Python, R, Spark, Hadoop or similar technologies
• Experience developing and reviewing modeling solutions using various techniques (regressions, ML, deep learning, etc.)
• Ability to write and review complex technical documentation and communicate insights to technical and non-technical audiences
• Track record communicating results to Senior Executive Management
• Deep technical skills, consulting experience, and business savvy
• US military experience is a differentiator
• Financial Services industry experience is a differentiator
• Must not require visa sponsorship or immigration support now or in the future

• Lead a team of Data Scientists responsible for identifying, scoping, and translating business problems into applied statistical, machine learning, simulation, and optimization solutions
• Generate actionable business insights and drive business value through automation, revenue generation, and reduction of expenses and risk
• Work with business leaders to ideate, evaluate, and scope projects addressing critical business needs
• Manage the team's project portfolio and communicate progress, outcomes, and updates to senior leadership and business stakeholders
• Oversee the team's model inventory and ensure compliance with model risk management policies and regulatory requirements
• Research emerging technologies, identify innovation opportunities, and drive adoption of advanced analytical capabilities
• Act as an advanced analytics thought leader and advisor to shape competitive strategies
• Influence business, data, and technology leaders on advanced analytical capability investments, planning, and budgeting
• Lead and develop teams building and deploying advanced analytical solutions in an agile, collaborative environment
• Simplify model development lifecycle processes and drive automation
• Manage complex analytical projects and translate results for non-technical executives
• Deliver business insights through scalable, automated machine learning, simulation, and optimization solutions
• Partner with enterprise analytical and IT teams to build USAA capabilities and processes
• Identify additional resource needs, including IT investments, third-party support, and analysts
• Recruit, develop, retain, coach, support, and performance-manage Data Scientists
• Identify, measure, monitor, and control risks in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Operations Research, Data and/or Business Analysis, Data Science, or a business or quantitative field; OR 4 years of relevant education and/or experience
• 8 years in predictive modeling, model governance, machine learning and large data analysis; OR an advanced degree and 6 years in predictive modeling, model governance, machine learning and large data analysis
• 3 years of direct management experience
• Strong communication skills and ability to interpret and translate complex technical information to diverse audiences
• Experience with SQL, Python, R, Spark, Hadoop, or similar languages, applications, and technologies
• Experience developing and reviewing modeling solutions using techniques including regressions, time series methods, survival analysis, support vector machines, neural networks, decision trees, random forests, gradient-boosting methods, deep learning, clustering, and simulation methods
• Ability to apply best practices in modeling and machine learning to solve business problems
• Ability to write and review complex technical documentation and communicate modeling insights and technical details to technical and non-technical audiences
• Track record communicating results, insights, and technical solutions to Senior Executive Management or equivalent
• Deep technical skills, consulting experience, and business savvy
