Job summary

Bertelsmann is seeking a strategic Director, Corporate Benefits to lead the U.S. health, welfare and retirement programs across its multi-company environment, including Penguin Random House, BMG and Fremantle.

Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this hands-on leadership role blends strategic planning with execution. Based in New York City, the role requires in‑office work at least two days per week with flexibility, and involves governance, compliance, and vendor management to ensure program

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, Finance, or related field.
• 10+ years of benefits experience across health, welfare, and retirement.
• 2+ years leading benefits professionals and managers.
• Experience with U.S. benefits laws and plan documents.
• Experience in decentralized multi-entity or shared services organizations.
• CEBS/ASPPA or actuarial credentials preferred.
• Advanced Excel skills and financial modeling.
• Excellent analytical, project-management, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute corporate benefits strategy across health, welfare, and retirement plans.
• Design, administer, and improve benefit programs and plan documents.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cost modeling for benefits.
• Oversee governance, compliance, and regulatory reporting.
• Lead vendor management and enrollment processes for decentralized operations.
• Manage acquisitions-related benefits workstreams and integration.
