Job summary

• On-boards clinical students by implementing and overseeing required training, ensuring that required standards are met, and overseeing logistics of student fulfillment of educational responsibilities in the clinical years of the MD program.
• Manages administration of Phase 2 longitudinal Intersessions course.
• Manages NBME exam logistics for core clinical experiences, including accommodations during NBME subject exams.
• Advises on solutions for alternative educational experiences when students cannot adhere to typical curriculum experiences.
• Serves as initial point of contact to a wide range of internal and external constituencies regarding Clinical Education matters.
• Oversees maintenance of internal and external facing webpages and Canvas websites.
• Assures compliance with the LCME accreditation standards for Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the medical student curriculum.

Position Purpose: Oversees the operational activities for the Geisel School of Medicine's clinical curriculum for MD students, ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the educational program and creating a supportive learning environment for students to achieve the curriculum requirements and prepare for residency. Works closely with counterparts across Geisel and external institutional partners to continually review processes, identify opportunities for improvement, and allocate resources to achieve these goals.

Required Qualifications

• Education and Years Experience: Bachelors plus 6 or more years' experience or combination of education and experience
• Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Proven leadership and management skills.

• Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in relevant field.
  • 7-9 years relevant work experience in medical education, administration, curriculum development and/or learning pedagogy.
  • Familiarity with Dartmouth financial and HR systems and procedures.

Key Accountabilities

Clinical Curriculum Implementation

• Oversees implementation of all components of the Phase 2 and Phase 3 curriculum.
  • Collaborates with Registrar's office to establish annual lottery timelines for clinical rotations
  • On-boards clinical students by implementing and overseeing required training, ensuring that required standards are met, and overseeing logistics of student fulfillment of educational responsibilities in the clinical years of the MD program
  • Manages administration of Phase 2 longitudinal Intersessions course.
  • Manages National Board of Medical Examiners exam logistics for core clinical experiences, including collaborating with the Office of Student Academic Success in arranging for student accommodations during NBME subject exams, overseeing staffing and space needs for the subject exams across clinical sites and all core clerkships (26 + annually)
  • Advises on solutions for alternative educational experiences when students are unable to adhere to typical curriculum experiences
• Serves as initial point of contact to a wide range of internal and external constituencies regarding Clinical Education matters.
• Oversees maintenance of internal and external facing webpages and Canvas websites.
• Assures compliance with the LCME accreditation standards for Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the medical student curriculum, in collaboration with the Associate Dean for Medical Education, the Assistant Deans for Phase 2 and 3, and the Director of Accreditation

Personnel, Financial, and Operational Management

• Directs all aspects of clinical staffing operations with full oversight for team members, including hiring, evaluation, mentorship, and coaching.
• Delegates tasks to other team members as appropriate.
• Oversees, develops, and manages unit budget, conducting on-going monitoring and ensuring accuracy of projections.
• Reviews proposed expenditures for propriety and availability of funds; approves/disapproves as appropriate.
• Develops and helps implement standard operating procedures and policies for Clinical Education and associated Geisel sponsored student expenses, such as housing and stipends.
• Establishes effective partnerships between the Office of Clinical Education and various internal and external stakeholders (Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, California Pacific Medical Center and the Veteran's Affairs Hospital of White River Junction).
  • Oversees establishment of and renewal of institutional partnership affiliation agreements, in collaboration with the Office of Educational Affairs, the Associate Dean for Medical Education, and the Office of General Counsel as appropriate

Medical Student Support

• Communicates effectively with students using a variety of mechanisms (e.g., web, social media, townhall) to ensure information is well delivered and received.
• Oversees visiting student programs including the DVSP
• Triages urgent and non-urgent issues as appropriate to clinical education dean, student life, registrar, etc.
