About The Position

The Director, Category Strategy & Insights, will serve as the chief architect of category growth strategy, reporting directly to the Chief Business Development Officer. This role demands a seasoned professional with deep trade expertise, executive presence, and a proven ability to translate insights into actionable, revenue-driving strategies. The ideal candidate will bring a strong track record of building category leadership positions, influence senior retail buyers, and shape commercial and portfolio strategy at the enterprise level.

WAGE: Salary range for this position is $195,000.00 - $205,000.00 annually, subject to all required taxes and withholdings.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead category strategy and insights development across grocery, mass, club, convenience, and emerging channels
  • Partner closely with Sales, Marketing, and Innovation to translate insights into commercial strategies and customer activation plans
  • Serve as the key point of contact for retailer-specific insights and joint business planning for priority accounts
  • Lead the development of compelling, data-driven presentations that position Oberto as a thought leader in the category
  • Own the relationship with syndicated data providers (IRI, Nielsen, SPINS, etc.) and oversee analytics support
  • Manage customer segmentation, shopper behavior analysis, and total category performance diagnostics
  • Cultivate deep customer relationships with top retailers and serve as a strategic advisor on macro trends and category drivers
  • Collaborate cross-functionally on innovation pipeline development, portfolio architecture, and pricing strategy
  • Mentor and lead a high-performing team of analysts and category managers
  • Drive internal education on evolving consumer trends and retail landscapes
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Marketing or related field
  • Master of Business Administration preferred
  • Strong, established relationships with key trade partners and retailers, with a successful track record of influencing category decisions
  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience, with at least 10 years in trade marketing, category management, or CPG industry roles
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree (MBA or related field) strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of syndicated data and trade marketing processes.
  • Exceptional strategic planning, problem solving, and managerial skills.
  • Strong understanding of budget management, business cycles, and key financial drivers.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional planning, project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of segmentation and business sectors.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Exceptional ability to develop innovative processes and consistently deliver results.
  • Deep understanding of syndicated and shopper data tools (IRI, Nielsen, Numerator, Retail Link, 84.51°, etc.).
  • Desire to work cross-functionally with a high degree of positive intent.

Work environment is that of an office environment. This employee regularly works with office equipment, materials, chemicals, wet floors and with wet equipment when on the production floor. This employee work around high voltage, hot water, and steam

  • Physical work including climbing stairs, etc.
  • Willing to work in a various-temperature environment
  • Ability to handle items weighting under 25lbs or may need to move objects safely and with proper body mechanics.

  • Ability to frequently reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus
