Your new role
The Vice President of Marketing, Government, Funder & Non-Profit (GFN) Segment plays a pivotal role in driving growth, engagement, and market leadership for Digital Science within the public research ecosystem, including government agencies, funding bodies, and non-profit research institutions.
Working closely with the EVP of the GFN Segment, the VP of Marketing, GFN Segment is responsible for developing targeted, insight-driven marketing strategies and leading initiatives that align with Digital Science’s overall business objectives. Leveraging deep B2G marketing expertise and a strong understanding of the policy, funding, and operational dynamics of the public sector, the VP will help identify emerging trends—such as research security and AI for science—and position Digital Science as a trusted, innovative partner in advancing the global research infrastructure.
This role includes leading a dedicated marketing team of DS marketers and external agencies , overseeing marketing campaigns and budgets, and refining strategies based on market signals and performance insights to ensure sustained visibility, pipeline growth, and stakeholder engagement. The VP will also drive thought leadership and brand initiatives that shape industry conversations and elevate Digital Science’s reputation among government and funder audiences globally.

What you’ll be doing
Segment Marketing Strategy
- Develop and lead a comprehensive marketing strategy for the GFN segment, with emphasis on market positioning, competitive differentiation, customer segmentation, and persona development.
- Help identify key market trends, funding patterns, and policy shifts to guide marketing programs, messaging, and product alignment.
- Drive growth by creating and promoting content and programs that resonate with public-sector buyers and decision-makers.
Sales Collaboration & Enablement
- Partner closely with Sales and Revenue Operations to ensure alignment between marketing efforts and revenue goals.
- Deliver tailored programs that address the specific needs of U.S. government agencies, international funders, and non-profit research institutions.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Customer Success to support lifecycle engagement, product adoption, and retention.
Leadership & Execution
- Lead and mentor a segment-specific marketing team to execute marketing initiatives with excellence and agility.
- Establish KPIs and performance metrics to track and optimize marketing impact on pipeline generation, engagement, and brand reach.
Messaging, Content & Thought Leadership
- Translate complex product capabilities into clear, outcome-focused messaging in partnership with Product Marketing.
- Build and promote value-based messaging that elevates Digital Science as a leading innovation partner to the global public research community
- Serve as the marketing subject matter expert on public-sector research workflows, procurement models, and decision-making dynamics.
- Work with the Thought Leadership team to create original research, reports, and content programming that build credibility and brand awareness in the GFN space.
Competitive Intelligence & Strategic Insight
- Working with Product Marketing and the Segment Leadership Team,, monitor market developments and competitor activity through a mix of formal intelligence and feedback from sales, product, and clients.
- Use insights to adjust positioning, identify gaps or opportunities, and support sales with market-specific enablement materials.
Events & Program Management
- Oversee selection, planning, and execution of key industry events, virtual summits, webinars, and sponsorships in collaboration with the Events team.
- Work with Product and Performance Marketing to create high-impact content and promote programs through targeted, multi-channel campaigns.
Travel
- Participate in domestic and international travel (~6+ trips per year) to support events, internal planning, client engagement, and strategic planning.
What you’ll bring to the role
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Public Policy, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Experience
- 15+ years of experience in marketing, including 10+ years of experience leading B2G marketing programs focused on U.S. Federal Government or similar international public-sector clients, either in-house or through an agency.
- Proven success marketing enterprise platforms, SaaS solutions and professional services offerings to complex public-sector buyers.
- Experience with scientific, academic, or research-driven markets is a strong plus.
Skills & Competencies
- Deep knowledge of public procurement dynamics, funding cycles, and government RFP or grant processes.
- Hands-on expertise with Salesforce, Pardot, Asana (or equivalents), ABM platforms, and AI-powered marketing tools.
- Strong ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence without direct authority.
- Strategic thinker who can balance big-picture vision with detail-oriented execution.
