POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Carrier Strategies is responsible for developing and executing a strategic plan to maximize revenue growth through carrier relationships and commission structures that are aligned with regional business strategy and local market opportunities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage and Strengthen Carrier Relationships

  • Facilitate new carrier appointments and enhance existing carrier relationships.

  • Collaborate with Licensing & Compliance, maintaining regional carrier profile information, and identifying carrier solutions that align with the region’s target industries and growth initiatives.

  • Oversee carrier meetings to ensure the appropriate regional associates are included, agendas are productive and strategically aligned, and seek opportunities for carriers to deliver product knowledge and expertise training to regional teams.

  • Oversee carrier engagement strategies to deepen partnerships and leverage market relationships.

  • Drive adoption of best practices for submission quality, marketing timelines, and carrier negotiations.

  • Provide a marketing approach to introduce products and carrier product enhancements to the customer marketplace.

  • Provide market feedback to internal teams and carrier partners, recommending coverage or product enhancements to address evolving client needs and industry trends

Manage commission structures and performance

  • Primary contact for regional carrier relationships as related to commission structures.

  • Maximize revenue opportunities by establishing effective carrier commission agreements and relationships within the region.

  • Responsible for contingent commission budget and revenue growth through development of enhanced commission arrangements for the region.

  • Evaluates carriers and creates enhanced commission arrangements with select carriers that best fit to support Hub's business strategy and customer's needs.

  • Review activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives and revise objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions

Team Management

  • Lead and manage the Risk Placement Team to support efficient and strategic placement of new and renewal business. Ensure optimal carrier selection in alignment with client needs and region goals.

Foster strong relationships with the Sales Team

  • Collaborate with Chief Sales Officers to understand local/regional customer segments and growth opportunities.

  • Collaborate directly with producers to pre-qualify prospects, ensuring alignment with the region’s new business strategy. Review all new business submissions to validate completeness, accuracy of information, and adequacy of lead time for successful placement.

  • Partner with Sales Leadership to:

    • Build and launch a cross-departmental client referral program between Employee Benefits and Commercial Lines, strengthening client retention and expanding service offerings across the region.

    • Drive new business production and expand the region’s footprint within target industry verticals.

  • Identify new product opportunities offered by carriers for further business development.

  • Monitor carrier performance and alerts Sales Staff of carrier performance.

Support Heartland Operational Processes

  • Design and implement a regional incentive compensation tracking system. Establish processes for carrier insights and collaborate with Finance and Operations teams to ensure timely reporting of new business growth, lost business, and loss history data that impact incentive compensation outcomes.

  • Coordinate the critical path internal renewal review process focused on improving client retention, particularly for key accounts. Strengthen carrier partner strategies and drive the effective utilization of regional and national resources for risk services and account support.

  • Develop acquisition integration strategy to create favorable commission arrangements with key markets; Evaluates carrier agreements as part of the merger and acquisition due diligence process and determine gaps, risks and opportunities.

  • Lead strategic initiatives related to market intelligence, competitive positioning, and risk service enhancement.

Represent Heartland across HUB

  • Implement HUB International CMO best practices and other corporate marketing Initiatives.

  • Support and collaborate with HUB Industry practice groups.

  • Align with HUB's client placement strategies utilizing SPG and other HUB owned entities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree required, MBA preferred.

  • At least 10 years of experience in the insurance industry property and casualty, risk management, life and health insurance and bank related insurance products in a senior production or leadership role.

  • High degree of business acumen is required.

  • Significant industry knowledge required.

  • Must be knowledgeable of industry standards and regulations and maintain all required industry licenses.

  • Keeps commitments, keeps others informed of work progress, timetables, and issues.

  • Addresses problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions.

  • Works effectively as a leader with all levels of the organization.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft office tools, including Excel and PowerPoint.
