  • Serves as the chair of the University's Behavioral Intervention Team with administrative units to address and resolve issues including threat assessment strategies.
  • Oversees communication with students, faculty, staff, parents, attorneys, and others regarding student support matters.
  • Provides consultation for students with problems, questions, and/or concerns regarding sexual assault, stalking situations, physical assault, harassment, problems with faculty and staff, etc.
  • Directs student programming and learning outcomes in the area of student support and intervention designed to improve student development while achieving institutional objectives.

Job Summary

Within theDivision of Student Affairs, the Office of the Dean of Students iscommitted to promoting a caring and safe community that increasesour students' abilities to learn and make healthy choices. The Campus Support & Intervention Team focuses onbehavioral intervention and supports the emotional, physical, andsocial well-being of students within the campuscommunity.

The University of Utah seeks a highly motivated, student-centered,and dedicated professional to serve as the Director for CampusSupport & Intervention. Reporting to the Associate Dean ofStudents, the Director is responsible for supervising and managingthe student support systems by providing a philosophical,developmental, and educational context for student support andintervention on campus. The Director must strategically lead theseprograms, balancing the needs of individual students with the needsof the community. This position is responsible for providingleadership, training, support and guidance to members of the campuscommunity. The Director will provide support in addressing studentsupport, well-being, and success. Additionally, the Director willserve as the chair of the Behavioral Intervention Team. TheDirector will provide cross-departmental leadership to ensure thatstudent support processes are being appropriately applied,monitored, and reviewed, while also providing trainings on thestudent support process for campus community members. The Directorwill work with the ODOS team and other campus stakeholders tocreate processes that adhere to national best practicestandards.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the chair of the University's Behavioral InterventionTeam with administrative units to address and resolve issuesincluding threat assessment strategies.
  • Oversees communication with students, faculty, staff, parents,attorneys, and others regarding student support matters.
  • Provides consultation for students with problems, questions,and/or concerns regarding sexual assault, stalking situations,physical assault, harassment, problems with faculty and staff,etc.
  • Serve as after business hour support for on-call staff throughthe AD on-call rotation, as part of the ODOS/ORL departmentresponse team in the case of an emergency. Thorough response tocritical inquiries or needs from families, students, staff,faculty, alumni, and other campus constituents is an expectationalong with knowledge of legal issues pertinent to housing andresidence life.
  • Directs student programming and learning outcomes in the areaof student support and intervention designed to improve studentdevelopment while achieving institutional objectives.
  • Develops, implements and analyzes assessment initiatives thatfoster student success and well-being.
  • Provides educational programming and outreach for theUniversity community including during new student orientation aswell as residence life trainings.
  • Prepares/oversees the preparation of departmental publications,statistical and periodic reports.
  • Represents the Office of the Dean of Students onUniversity-wide and Divisional committees as well as University andexternal agencies as appropriate (e.g. SafeUT).
  • Supervises the Associate Directors for Campus Support &Intervention and provides additional support and supervision forthe entire Campus Support & Intervention team including: CaseManagers and Resident Outreach Coordinators
  • Represents the Office of the Dean of Students in emergencyhousing protocols with Sunnyside Apartments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related area,or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for oneyears of related work experience)
  • 8 years of progressively more responsible managementexperience
  • Demonstrated leadership, human relations and effectivecommunications skills required.
Department-Specific Qualifications
  • Evidence of progressive leadership in student affairs
  • Knowledge of and experience with federal, state, and local lawand regulations pertaining to students such as the Clery Act,FERPA, and Title IX
  • Strong Interpersonal, analytical, and organizationalskills
  • Able to exercise sound decision-making and judgement
  • Strong problem solving and oral and written communicationskills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals froma variety of backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, and tocontribute to a welcoming and respectful environment
  • Computer literacy
Preferences
  • Master's degree in student affairs/higher educationadministration, law, or related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience with nationally recognized bestpractices in student support administration, including strategicplanning and assessment
  • Demonstrated record of career progression in student supportadministration or case management
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of strategic planning and student learningoutcomes
  • Familiarity with Advocate, the student support andaccountability software database or experience with other studentcase management databases.
  • Experience leading or serving on a Behavioral Intervention Teamor Threat Assessment group at a campus-wide level
  • Experience or working knowledge of residence life or housingenvironments
