Generate:Biomedicines seeks a Director of Biotherapeutic Production Technologies in Somerville/Andover, MA to lead protein expression, purification, and characterization across discovery and early development. Director, Biotherapeutic Production Technologies at Generate:Biomedicines, leading protein expression, purification, and characterization in discovery and early development.

Responsibilities

define and execute technology strategy across mammalian, CHO, and cell-free systems; oversee workflows from construct design to high-quality material production; establish standards for quality, reproducibility, and data integrity; partner with discovery, CMC, Tech Ops, and external CROs/CDMOs; drive innovation using AI/ML, automation, and structured data workflows; lead teams across two sites, managing resource planning, program prioritization, and operational excellence.

Requirements

Ph.D. in biochemistry, molecular biology, or related field with 10+ years (or M.S. with 12+ years) of industry experience; proven leadership in biotech or pharma protein production; expertise in mammalian expression, stable cell line development, and purification methods; strong understanding of analytical characterization; experience with complex protein modalities, especially therapeutic biologics; demonstrated strategic thinking, cross-functional collaboration, and vendor management skills.
