Job summary

GAF is seeking a Director of Automation and Control Systems to lead the Automation & Controls team, guiding strategic capital planning and cross-functional collaboration with engineering to drive innovation and manufacturing optimization.

This role emphasizes partnership across IT, Process Services, R&D, and operations, with a focus on safety, documentation, and delivering reliable controls across facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required.
• 10+ years of manufacturing experience.
• Experience leading Automation & Controls projects across multiple locations.
• Proven leadership of teams, directly or indirectly.
• Strong relationship-building and partnerships.
• Working knowledge of CAD, HMI development, PLCs, G-Suite, and diagnostic tools.

Responsibilities

• Manage all functions of Automation and Controls group.
• Contribute to 3- and 5-year capital plans for facilities.
• Collaborate with IT, Process Services, Corporate Eng., R&D to integrate automation controls.
• Manage capital projects and budgeting for the team.
• Identify and implement Automation & Controls software with operations systems.
• Ensure documentation and governance of controls projects.
• Provide leadership and promote safety culture and continuous education.
• Promote safety and machine health, ensure adherence to safety standards.
