Job summary

GAF is seeking a Director of Automation and Control Systems to lead the Automation & Controls team in a remote, US-based role. You will work closely with engineering to drive continuous innovation, support capital planning, and align initiatives with manufacturing optimization goals.

The role emphasizes leadership across facilities, safety culture, and integration of automation with IT, R&D, and process services while delivering solid operational results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required.
• 10+ years of manufacturing experience.
• Experience leading Automation & Controls projects across multiple locations.
• Proven ability to lead a team, directly or indirectly.
• Strong relationship-building and partnership development skills.
• Working knowledge of CAD, HMI, PLCs, G-Suite and diagnostic tools.

Responsibilities

• Manage all functions of Automation and Controls group.
• Contribute to 3 & 5 year capital plans for facilities.
• Collaborate with IT, Process Services, Corporate Engineering, R&D to integrate automation.
• Oversee financials: capital projects, budget, and reporting.
• Coordinate software initiatives with Operations Systems team.
• Guide engineering practices and control-system documentation.
• Promote safety excellence and machine health across teams.
