Job summary

Position Announcement

At Utah Valley University, you'll have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping a culture of compliance, integrity, and student-athlete success within a growing Division I athletics program. As Director of Compliance, you'll serve as a trusted leader and subject matter expert, providing strategic guidance on NCAA, Big West Conference, and university regulations while helping the institution navigate complex compliance matters. This position offers a unique blend of leadership, relationship-building, and problem-solving, allowing you to collaborate closely with coaches, administrators, and campus partners to support the success of UVU's student-athletes and athletic programs. In this role, you'll lead and enhance compliance systems, education initiatives, monitoring activities, and reporting processes that promote accountability and institutional excellence. You'll have the autonomy to exercise independent judgment, manage risk, interpret evolving regulations, and drive improvements that strengthen the athletics department's operations and reputation. Summary of Responsibilities
  • Oversees the initial eligibility certification and process of all student-athletes. Oversees the rules compliance monitoring for NCAA Bylaws and 7. Serves as the subject-matter expert for NCAA, conference, and institutional compliance matters.
  • Directs educational programming for student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff. Establish and continuously improve the annual department-wide compliance training, policies, procedures, and university administration reporting NCAA compliance issues. Ensures compliance training is up to date and documents training progress.
  • Interpret NCAA legislation and provide authoritative guidance to Athletics leadership, coaches, and staff. Lead responses to NCAA inquiries, audits, investigations, waivers, and self-reports. Conduct high-level risk assessments and proactively identify compliance vulnerabilities.
  • Updates and maintains athletics databases and files, including: Teamworks, CAi, IRL, Qualtrics, CAPS, NILGo, etc. Monitors recruiting, playing, and practice seasons, initial eligibility, and required annual forms.
  • Provide strategic guidance to senior Athletics leadership on compliance operations and regulatory changes by monitoring and interpreting NCAA bylaws and Big West Conference rules, e.g., recruiting, playing, and practice seasons. Implement and maintain compliance processes, forms, and workflows to ensure consistent regulatory compliance. Collaborate with campus partners, including General Counsel, People & Culture, Financial Aid, and Admissions, to address complex compliance matters and ensure institutional alignment.
  • Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor's degree and 2-3 years of professional experience in collegiate athletics.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience working in intercollegiate athletics and/or NCAA compliance.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) or other law degree.
  • National Association for Athletics Compliance (NAAC) Certification.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations, and the functioning of an intercollegiate athletic department.
  • Knowledge of how to produce, coordinate, and submit NCAA-required reports.
  • Experience in creating educational documents, public speaking, and presentations.
  • Experience in submitting GSR and APR.
  • Experience with Teamworks, LSDBI, CAI, Qualtrics, CAPS, NILGo, and RSRO.
  • Experience in creating, updating, and revising online forms.
Skills
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to draft appeals, waivers, and memorandums.
  • Skill in public speaking and presentations.
  • Leadership and teaching skills.
  • Skills in computer software for record keeping, data management, and NCAA databases, including LSDBi, Teamworks, Qualtrics, and CAi.
  • Skills in record keeping and reporting for large quantities of critical and sensitive information.

  • Skills in policy development and implementation.
  • Skill in monitoring systems for NCAA compliance.
Abilities
  • Ability to review and implement newly passed NCAA and Conference legislation.
  • Ability to represent the UVU Athletic Department appropriately and develop and maintain positive relationships with community agencies, campus entities, and department staff.
  • Ability to maintain integrity and keep confidences in critical situations on a day-to-day basis.
  • Ability to educate and motivate coaches and student-athletes in NCAA Compliance, conference regulations, academic policies, and athletic department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to oversee the compliance operations of designated teams, to monitor their compliance with guidelines set by the NCAA Division 1 program.
  • Ability to develop and lead student enhancement programs, including, but not limited to, orientations, educational training, service opportunities, etc.
  • Ability to provide appropriate data and statistical documentation when necessary.
  • Ability to direct and monitor certification of initial, transfer, and continuing eligibility of student-athletes, and to help maintain UVU's NCAA Academic Performance Program.
  • Ability to investigate, evaluate, research, and submit any NCAA violations through RSRO.
  • Ability to develop and implement institutional policies and procedures.
  • Ability to develop systems for monitoring NCAA rules compliance.
