Job Purpose

The Assistant Controller provides operational leadership for enterprise accounting, consolidation, financial close and cost accounting with a staff consisting of two direct reports and approximately 20 professional staff. The role partners with the Corporate Controller to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial information while translating accounting requirements into disciplined, scalable processes. This leader strengthens governance, develops accounting talent, and modernizes controllership operations by advancing standardization, automation, and data quality across a complex, multi-entity environment.

What Will You Do?
Financial Close, Consolidation & Reporting

Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close and consolidation processes, establishing clear timelines, accountabilities, review standards, and escalation protocols. Oversee the preparation and review of consolidated financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with U.S. GAAP and applicable statutory requirements. Coordinate accounting inputs and documentation for external reporting and SEC filings, partnering with technical accounting, legal, finance, and other stakeholders. Review significant, complex, or unusual transactions and ensure accounting conclusions are appropriately documented, approved, and reflected in the financial records. Monitor close performance, reporting accuracy, and balance sheet integrity; resolve issues promptly and drive sustainable corrective actions.

Accounting Operations & Process Excellence

Oversee core accounting activities including general accounting, consolidations, intercompany accounting, fixed assets, inventory accounting, and balance sheet reconciliations. Define and monitor service, quality, and control expectations for accounting processes performed by corporate, business, regional, or shared-service teams. Partner with Finance Technology and IT to improve ERP, consolidation, reconciliation, and financial reporting capabilities; represent controllership requirements in system initiatives. Establish meaningful performance measures and use root-cause analysis to drive continuous improvement. Leverage AI/ML and other technologies to automate close, consolidation and ledger data validation to reduce audit lag and minimize manual efforts. Actively coordinate upstream business data practices where financial data originates, design and add dimensionality to the chart of accounts as necessary to facilitate custom, granular business reporting.

Cost Accounting and Inventory

Manage cost accounting processes, including standard cost procedures, inventory valuation and existence. Collaborate with the Integrated Supply Team to improve cost transparency. Efficiently and accurately handle the forecasting and recording of LIFO entries. Ensure cost and inventory items are consistently aligned among FP&A, Accounting, and External Reporting.

Business Partnership & Enterprise Initiatives

Serve as a trusted partner to finance and business leaders on accounting, reporting, controls, and financial process matters. Collaborate with FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Shared Services, Finance Technology, Legal, IT, Internal Audit, and Operations to align accounting execution with enterprise priorities. Lead or contribute to ERP implementations, finance transformation, organizational changes, and other cross-functional initiatives requiring strong accounting governance. Communicate accounting risks, decisions, tradeoffs, and recommended actions clearly to senior finance leadership.

People Leadership & Talent Development

Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing accounting team with clear roles, decision rights, objectives, and development plans. Build organizational capability through succession planning, cross-training, technical development, and exposure to enterprise initiatives.

What Do You Need?
Education & Experience

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required; master's degree preferred. CPA preferred. 12 or more years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including leadership responsibility in corporate accounting, financial reporting, or controllership. Experience in a complex, public-company, multi-entity environment with manufacturing strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience leading financial close, consolidation, and cross-functional process improvement. Experience with ERP, consolidation, (SAP and OneStream preferred) reconciliation, and financial reporting systems; finance transformation experience preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, consolidation, financial reporting, accounting operations, SOX, internal controls, and audit requirements. Ability to translate technical accounting and control requirements into practical, repeatable operating processes. Ability to oversee financial data architecture: focusing on governance, risk mitigation and cross-functional collaboration to ensure secure and efficient financial data access. Project Management experience in applying lean or agile methodologies to accelerate close cycles and streamline workflows to continuously evaluate, define and optimize the global accounting operating model. Sound judgment, professional skepticism, attention to detail, and be able to identify and escalation material risks. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver against firm deadlines. Clear and concise communication skills, including the ability to explain complex accounting matters to technical and nontechnical audiences. Proven ability to influence across functions, lead through change, and build trusted relationships at multiple organizational levels. Commitment to talent development, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Scope & Impact

Provides enterprise-level leadership for assigned accounting, consolidation, reporting, and control activities. Directly influences the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial information and the effectiveness of the accounting control environment.
