Job summary

Slalom is seeking a Director of AI Systems and Platforms to lead client delivery, architecture, and the AI/ML practice. You will mentor AI/ML engineers, architects, and data scientists while shaping complex engagements and ensuring production readiness.

You will move between client conversations, architecture decisions, code reviews, and production troubleshooting, guiding teams to build scalable AI solutions across agentic AI, RAG, and model platforms.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in AI, machine learning, data science, software engineering, or closely related field with production systems experience.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience building/operating production services, data products, ML platforms, or intelligent applications.
• 5+ years of technical leadership, people leadership, or capability management experience including hiring, coaching, performance, staffing, and team health.
• 2+ years hands-on experience designing and delivering GenAI, LLM, RAG, or agentic AI systems beyond proof of concept.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex AI/ML engagements, contribute to discovery, solution architecture, rapid prototypes, and production issue resolution.
• Architect, prototype, build, and productionize agentic AI, RAG, and AI workflow solutions; translate outcomes into technical designs.
• Develop and review production code using Python, SQL, PySpark; apply best practices like automated testing and secure coding.
• Build with AI platforms (Azure, AWS, Google) and model ecosystems (OpenAI, Hugging Face) and manage CI/CD, IaC, monitoring, and cost.
• Define and enforce production quality standards for safety, latency, reliability, and privacy; design guardrails and human-in-the-loop controls.
