Job summary

Covington & Burling LLP seeks a Director of KM and Practice Technology to lead the KM and Practice Technology team across Corporate, Litigation, Regulatory, and White Collar practices. You will shape standards, govern content, and drive AI-enabled knowledge workflows, partnering with Applied AI for scalable solutions.

The role requires seasoned leadership, deep KM/tech expertise, and a track record turning knowledge into strategic infrastructure that enhances client service and firm-wide

Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years of transferable professional experience in KM, legal tech, or related delivery roles with leadership exposure.
• Experience leading teams and interfacing with senior leadership.
• Proven track record deploying KM or workflow solutions with measurable adoption.
• Strong understanding of taxonomies, metadata, matter intelligence, and AI-ready content.
• Excellent communication and change-management skills.
• Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the KM and Practice Technology Manager team across practice areas.
• Define and maintain firmwide KM and practice-technology standards and governance.
• Partner with practice groups to identify opportunities and drive scalable implementations.
• Oversee design, deployment, adoption, and maintenance of KM solutions, including precedent and clause banks.
• Ensure KM resources are actively operationalized within legal workflows.
• Collaborate with AI teams to ground workflows in high-quality knowledge content.
• Establish governance for knowledge assets' lifecycle and security.
• Drive legal process automation and knowledge-enabled workflow improvements.
