Job summary

Optum AI, part of UnitedHealth Group, is seeking an experienced AI/ML leader to design and deliver advanced health-focused AI solutions. You will mentor teams, build scalable platforms, and collaborate with stakeholders across the enterprise to ensure responsible and impactful AI deployment.

The role involves staying at the cutting edge of ML/NLP, guiding model development from ideation to production, and driving adoption of AI technologies in a large, distributed organization.

Qualifications

• Masters with 10+ years experience or PhD with 5+ years experience
• 3+ years experience delivering AI/ML/NLP solutions
• 5+ years leading AI/ML projects from ideation to production
• Hands-on experience implementing AI/ML and NLP solutions
• Proven experience in Python and AI/ML frameworks and tools
• Experience deploying data pipelines and models on cloud platforms
• Experience with GenAI pipelines and LLMs/Transformer architectures
• Strong ability to present complex AI/ML concepts to diverse audiences
• Solid mathematical foundations in statistics, linear algebra, and CS

Responsibilities

• Develop novel ML models for health outcomes and related applications
• Build engineering platforms and reusable AI/ML code
• Stay current with AI/ML research and develop practical solutions
• Mentor data scientists and engineers to ensure project delivery
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on AI applicability
• Coordinate with RUAI to ensure policy compliance
• Document algorithms, patents, and deployment procedures
• Advocate for AI model adoption across enterprise
