Job summary

Capital One is seeking a Director, AI Engineer to drive responsible AI systems and scalable AI infrastructure. You will lead cross-functional teams and shape the long-term AI platform strategy, overseeing model training, inference, and governance to deliver high-impact banking solutions.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with compliance and risk teams, and champion responsible AI while managing complex enterprise initiatives across multiple product areas.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in CS/AI/Engineering or related fields with required experience.
• 8+ years AI/ML algorithms experience or 6+ years with a Master's.
• At least 3 years of people leadership experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee AI software components: foundation model training, LLM inference, guardrails, evaluation, and observability.
• Lead decision making on build-vs-buy across Open Source and SaaS AI technologies.
• Invent model optimization techniques to improve performance, cost, latency, and throughput.
• Contribute to long-term AI system roadmaps and technical vision.
• Mentor and develop a multi-team AI organization and establish governance.
• Translate AI strategy into portfolio execution plans and scale engineering practices.
