Job summary

IDC seeks a Research Director to develop quantitative models for AI economics research, translating complex questions into mathematical models, implementing and validating them in code, and producing robust, reusable workflows.

You will contribute to client discussions and IDC research outputs while collaborating with industry experts to extend the team's modeling capabilities and forecast future scenarios.

Qualifications

• Advanced quantitative training in mathematics, physics, statistics, operations research, or a closely related discipline.
• Strong ability to translate mathematical ideas into working code and reproducible analyses.
• Experience applying forecasting, simulation or optimization methods to real data.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop models of complex systems with multiple interacting variables and changing conditions.
• Build AI cost models covering development, deployment and operation; separate initial vs recurring costs.
• Develop models of AI's economic value including productivity, cost savings and revenue effects.
• Create forecasts, simulations and scenarios that capture uncertainty and interactions between drivers.
• Identify, assess and combine data from IDC research and other sources with expert input.
• Calibrate and validate models; test predictive performance and update with new data.
• Build reusable, documented research code with tests and version control; use agentic AI to accelerate coding.
• Explain methodologies and findings to colleagues and clients and contribute to IDC research outputs.
