Job summary

Misericordia Chicago is seeking a Director to lead a residential residence and the care team, aligning strategy with leadership and ensuring high-quality, compliant services for residents with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities include program development, budget oversight, staff development, and collaboration with AVP/VP of Residential Living to deliver active treatment and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • Ability to complete Illinois Nursing Home Administrator license requirements (within 1 year)
  • Ability and willingness to maintain 24 hr.-on call responsibilities and to work any shift
  • Driver’s license
  • Must have supervisory experience
  • Leadership skills and / or management experience, including but not limited to project management, training, mentoring staff etc.
  • Experience taking the initiative and responsibility; demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and ownership
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Spends time developing supervisors and case managers, offering feedback and coaching
  • Holds supervisors and staff accountable for delivering against expectations and meeting goals
  • Generates and supports changes in the organization; encourages innovative problem solving

About Misericordia Home

Misericordia Heart of Mercy is a home to over 600 children and adults with mild to profound developmental disabilities. Misericordia offers a community of care that maximizes potential for persons with mild to profound developmental disabilities, many of whom are also physically challenged.

Summary

The Director will be responsible for the overall leadership, care, and development of their residence(s). A Director works directly with service line leadership to ensure quality and appropriate care to residents. This role will require leadership and support for the ongoing growth and development of their team members. This individual will also be responsible for supporting and aligning the strategy for their residence(s) with the AVP and VP of Residential Living. This includes active treatment programming, resident/family concerns, vocational and work activities, budgetary concerns, physical plant and environmental concerns, personnel issues & training, and ensuring regulatory compliance. Ensures health, safety, and welfare of all residents in an atmosphere which promotes quality, respect, and dignity of the person. Additionally, manage and develop the staff of their residential area, including addressing personnel issues, coordinating staff training and development activities. Directors will collaborate with other Directors, AVP’s, and the Vice President of Residential Living to provide exceptional care for our residents. Directors will create leadership opportunities for their staff.

Responsibilities

Functional

  • Knowledge of Misericordia philosophy, purpose, and services. Aware of policies and procedures concerning residents, families, personnel, and more specific home policies and procedures. Involvement in development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • In alignment with the AVP and VP, evaluate and develop strategies and plans for ongoing departmental success. Provide ideas, recommendations, and suggestions for opportunities to improve our service to residents as needs evolve over time.
  • Plan, direct, and coordinate department efforts that fit and align with area strategy looking ahead ~1-2 years.
  • Responsible for KPI’s around service delivery and talent and development. Is accountable for preparing reports with the support of the team that reflect work performance. Works directly with staff to review quality and accuracy of data. Understands data trends and proposes solutions when possible. Collaborates with other Directors to solve shared problems.
  • Partner with the AVP to develop and implement policies for review by the Executive Team.
  • Develop and maintain good relationships with neighbors, churches, and local businesses of the homes as well as assuring appropriate staff and resident conduct with same.
  • Maintain open communication and effective partnerships with other departments. Includes nursing, vocational, social service, business office, maintenance, housekeeping, personnel, and all consultants involved with the homes.
  • In conjunction with the AVP, responsible for maintaining a sound budget within the homes. Includes oversight of food expenses, utility expenses, programmatic expenses, petty cash, furnishings, equipment, and supplies.
  • Responsible for development, maintenance, and implementation of active treatment programs for all residents. Includes monitoring quality of programs, appropriateness of programs, outcomes of programs, and monitoring of written documentation of progress, reports, summaries, and individual program plans. Creates systems for accountability.
  • In conjunction with the AVP and VP, develop, maintain, and implement effective maintenance and preventative maintenance for the homes. Includes oversight of painting, decorating, and ordering of necessary equipment, furnishings, and supplies. Works effectively with department heads who coordinate these activities for the whole campus.
  • Spends time developing their supervisors and case managers, offering feedback and coaching and holds them accountable for developing their team members.
  • Holds supervisors and case managers accountable for delivering against expectations and meeting goals; offers support, removes obstacles where possible, and takes action when expectations are not met.
  • Generates and supports changes in the organization; encourages innovative problem solving among team members.

Leadership

Your Team: You will be managing and leading a team of Supervisors, QIDP’s, and Direct Care Staff.
