Job summary

YAI in New York, NY is seeking Direct Support Professionals to assist individuals with I/DD, supporting daily living, social activities and community involvement. You will implement person-centered plans, monitor behavior, and document progress in electronic health records.

Ideal candidates bring empathy, strong communication, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Training is provided; some shifts may require weekends or evenings.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Ability to meet essential physical demands including lifting up to 25 pounds with assistance and mobility tasks.
• Excellent written and oral communication for billing and tracking purposes.
• Enthusiasm for working with people with I/DD with empathy and compassion.
• Willingness to work flexible hours including holidays and weekends.
• Possession of a valid Driver’s License and Van certification where required.
• SCIP-R certification within one year of appointment.
• Obtain additional program-specific certifications within one year of appointment.
• Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships aligned with YAI’s mission.

Responsibilities

• Assist individuals to maximize strengths, interests and abilities while upholding personal rights.
• Support personal goals, encourage socialization, and facilitate community connections.
• Supervise and protect individuals, follow program guidelines and safety procedures.
• Provide health, wellness and safety supervision and manage crisis situations.
• Implement person-centered plans and BSPs with necessary oversight.
• Maintain a clean, safe therapeutic environment and follow infection control protocols.
• Document services, progress notes and billing information in electronic health records.
• Participate in team meetings and communicate programmatic needs.
• Operate YAI vehicle for transportation when required and with credentials.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
