Job summary

Birch Family Services in New York, NY is seeking a Direct Care Worker to counsel, assist and train individuals with developmental disabilities in personal care, travel skills, social skills, home management and life skills to maximize functioning in the community. Education required is a High School diploma with 1+ year experience preferred.

A valid NYS Driver’s License is required, and AMAP/First Aid/CPR certification may be pursued during probation.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated competency in written, verbal and computational skills to document records in accordance with program standards.
• Minimum 1-year experience working with developmentally disabled population preferred.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License required.

Responsibilities

• Support the individual by creating a safe and supportive home environment and assist with core competency goals.
• Provide safe and clean environments and support safety in daily activities.
• Use verbal and physical means to encourage growth and social skills incorporation into the community.
• Assist individuals in learning home living skills (cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc.).
• Perform advocate responsibilities with respect for processes and people involved.
• Document all services and maintain accurate records for each individual.
