Job summary

Birch Family Services seeks a dedicated direct care worker to counsel, assist and train individuals with developmental disabilities in personal care, travel skills, social skills, home management and life skills to maximize community functioning.

The role requires a High School diploma or GED, at least 1 year of relevant experience, and a valid NYS driver’s license. Special certifications including AMAP, First Aid/CPR and SCIPR are encouraged during probation and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Minimum 1 year experience working with developmentally disabled population preferred.
• Must complete AMAP during probationary period.
• Maintain AMAP certification.
• Ability and willingness to be First Aid and CPR certified.
• Willingness to obtain SCIPR Competencies and advance to Promote.

Responsibilities

• Support the individual by providing a safe and comfortable home environment and assisting with daily living activities.
• Document records and maintain program compliance according to standards.
• Assist individuals in developing social skills and community inclusion.
• Provide protective oversight during community activities and monitor health needs.
• Assist with home living tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and personal care.
• Maintain documentation related to essential functions and services.
