Job summary

Devereux is seeking a Direct Support Professional in Homestead, PA to support individuals in the day program. Responsibilities

  • Follow ISP health and safety protocols for each individual.
  • Maintain safety and supervise to ensure a safe environment.
  • Document and report all relevant notes, progress, and incidents.
  • Assist individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and daily routines.
  • Communicate clearly with team members, families, medical professionals, and supports coordinators.
  • Mentor colleagues and support trainings as needed.

Job Summary

This is an entry level role in the day program department. The position is primarily responsible for following all health and safety protocols outlined in each individual’s Individual Service Plan (ISP). This involves adhering to departmental policies and practices that follow state regulations and ensuring clear, thorough, consistent communication and follow-up with all team members, including family, medical professionals, supports coordinators, behavior consultants, and other staff and supervisors.

Essential Professional Skills
  • Relationship Builder – Staff repeatedly engage and interact with individuals in a positive manner, regardless of behaviors.
  • Safety – Staff provide and ensure a safe environment, constantly supervise, follow program rules and routines, and report and document all safety-related incidents.
  • Environmental Manager – Staff maintain a clean, organized, and aesthetically pleasing environment.
  • Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Skills – Staff teach and assist individuals in ADLs such as room cleaning, chores, laundry, and personal hygiene.
  • Paperwork, Documentation, and Email – Staff complete relevant documentation and paperwork including but not limited to Profiler, RADAR, assessments, group notes, data collection, and individual progress notes.
  • Other duties as required – e.g., assisting clinicians by reviewing service notes for quality, conducting observations, providing feedback for required trainings, mentoring.
Qualifications
  • GED or high school diploma.
  • Previous experience preferred but not required working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorders.
  • Driver’s license is required.
Physical Requirements

Regularly works with individuals exhibiting unpredictable behavior. Requires walking, standing, and occasionally sitting. Frequently stooping, bending, kneeling, running, and lifting weights up to 50 pounds. Requires vision and physical ability to operate vehicles, accompany individuals on off‑site activities, and perform CPR, first aid procedures, and behavior‑management physical interventions. Frequent use of verbal and written communication. Must be free of dependence on illicit substances.
