Job summary

Devereux New Jersey is seeking a Direct Support Professional to help adults with autism and developmental disabilities gain independence and daily living skills. You will work with a collaborative team, receiving training and ongoing clinical support from our seasoned staff and regional leadership.

Starting pay is $20.42/hour with opportunities for advancement based on education and experience. Comprehensive benefits after 30 days and a robust time-off program accompany the role.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid, non-provisional driver's license required.
• At least 18 years old.
• Willingness to attend two-week paid orientation and training (hybrid and in-person).
• Ability to respond calmly, make thoughtful decisions and ask for support when needed.
• Empathy, reliability and a team-oriented approach to supporting adults with autism and developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

• Support individuals in residential group homes or vocational day programs.
• Ensure safety, health and well-being of those in care.
• Coach daily living skills such as cooking, cleaning and shopping.
• Assist in planning and documenting programs addressing social, emotional, physical and personal needs.
• Participate in community activities and outings to promote independence.
• Build positive relationships with family members to support the individuals.
