Job summary

Mary Cariola Center in Webster, NY is seeking a Direct Support Professional II - Staff Support Specialist to assist with training, resident care, and program implementation. You will coordinate orientation, maintain training packets, obtain SCIP-r/CPR/First Aid certifications, and participate in staff meetings and safety drills.

Qualified applicants have English proficiency, a NYS driver’s license, and a high school diploma or GED; 6 months in a similar role preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist with orientation and training of new staff in all individual program plans, data collection systems and direct care responsibilities.
  • Act as a “training mentor” to new staff by maintaining communication with the new employee, monitoring their training progress and ensuring they complete their training packet.
  • Assist in keeping the training packet up to date, making updates when needed.
  • Obtain and maintain Train-the-Trainer certifications for SCIP-r or CPR/First Aid, providing new staff training and updates in these areas, as requested.
  • Attend medical/health related appointments of the residents as needed.
  • Facilitate active participation of the residents by implementing their individual program plan in their home and community.
  • Implement behavior support plans and Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-r) accurately and consistently.
  • Engage in lifting, moving and positioning tasks for residents as needed.
  • Promote and facilitate self-care and personal hygiene.
  • Assist residents with bathing, toileting, dressing and eating as needed including modeling appropriate behavior, using therapeutic equipment and/or feeding.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks including meal preparation, cleaning, laundry and shopping.
  • Foster receptive and expressive communication through sign language, pictograms and electronic devices.
  • Accurately complete all required documentation using PrecisionCare and written form when necessary.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings, case reviews, in-service sessions, etc.
  • Implement fire, safety and emergency procedures, assisting with fire drills.
  • Assist with fire drills.
  • Administer medications to residents.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy and procedure manuals
  • Possess a current and valid NYS drivers license
  • High School Diploma or GED
Preferred Qualifications
  • 6 months or more experience in similar role
Certifications and Trainings
  • NYS Medication Administration
  • SCIP-r
  • CPR
  • First Aid
  • All other trainings mandated by the Office for people with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD)
