Job summary

Devereux New Jersey is seeking a Direct Support Professional to help adults with autism and developmental disabilities build independence and life skills. Join a collaborative team with extensive training, supervision, and clinical support from a strong management network led by our State Clinical Director.

Qualifications

• Empathy, reliability and teamwork are essential in supporting adults with autism and developmental disabilities.
• Ability to respond calmly and make thoughtful decisions; seek support when needed.
• A valid, non-provisional driver’s license is required.
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Must be at least 18 years old and complete a two-week paid orientation (hybrid and in-person).

Responsibilities

• Direct Support Professionals may work in residential group homes or vocational day programs.
• Help ensure the safety, health, and well-being of individuals in our care.
• Coach and assist individuals with daily living skills (food prep, cooking, cleaning, shopping).
• Support planning, implementation and documentation of programs addressing social, emotional, physical and personal needs.
• Plan and participate in community-based employment, day program activities and outings.
• Build positive relationships with families to support the individual's success.
• Safely transporting individuals to appointments and activities.
