Job summary

Waypoint is seeking a Direct Support Professional in Maine to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in residential and community settings. The role emphasizes promoting independence, self-determination, and respectful interactions while maintaining documentation and safety standards.

The position requires a valid driver's license, CRMA and Safety Care certifications, and English proficiency.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must become DSP, CRMA and Safety Care certified as primary responsibility of the DSP position.
• Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
• Must be proficient in speaking, reading and writing English.
• Ability to learn beginner level Information Technology skills.

Responsibilities

• Support individuals to develop skills that promote independence and full participation in their community.
• Develop a collaborative rapport with participants and cultivate a safe and supportive relationship to plan and engage in activities aligned with their interests and personal goals.
• Respect each individual's right to privacy and confidentiality.
• Encourage self-determination and self-advocacy by supporting individuals with exploring areas of interest and expressing their choices.
• Implement Service Implementation Plans and support/care plans as described in the Person-Centered Service Plans.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services in electronic health records and progress notes.
• Assist with personal care tasks when needed, respecting dignity and privacy.
• Provide support for household responsibilities, such as cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation.
• Support participation in community activities and transportation as needed.
• Provide transportation to appointments and activities in compliance with policy and laws.
• Follow recommendations from professional providers (e.g., OT, PT, SLP, Dietician).
• Administer medications in compliance with CRMA requirements and procedures.
• Mentor healthy eating choices and overall health.
• Report incidents and required notifications per policies and regulations.
• Complete trainings and certifications.
• Attend staff meetings and supervisions.
• Promote a collaborative, professional work environment and teamwork.
• Develop professional relationships and communicate with participants, families, coworkers, supervisors, and partners to resolve concerns.
