Summary
The Direct Support Professional works on an interdisciplinary team that delivers superior quality of service and provides appropriate activities in a safe and healthy environment within the home and community setting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist clients with basic living skills and daily personal tasks such as showers, dressing, housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal preparation and planning, and financial budgeting.
- Provide transportation to and from activities and appointments as needed, requiring a valid Arkansas driver’s license.
- Maintain effective communication with staff through logs, meetings, and other appropriate means regarding client needs and progress toward their plan of care by shift end.
- Accurately complete all FCC‑required documentation, including behavioral reports, incident reports, complaint forms, personal care worksheets, requisitions, maintenance forms, progress reports, monthly attendance logs, and any other required documentation.
- Maintain necessary documentation and mileage/billing forms for FTA vehicles in compliance with Medicaid guidelines.
- Report incidents and emergencies to supervisors or authorized personnel immediately, recognizing the position as safety sensitive.
- Assist in the formulation, management, revision, and follow‑through of each client’s Plan of Care to ensure treatment is carried out and health, safety, and security are prioritized.
- Follow medication management guidelines and assist in monitoring and documenting procedures.
- Organize and conduct recreational activities for clients.
- Model appropriate behavior and appearance in adherence to FCC dress code and professional conduct.
- Treat clients and their families with dignity and respect, reflecting FCC’s mission in all actions.
- Assist in maintaining FCC facilities and grounds, ensuring cleanliness and proper functioning.
- Maintain FCC vehicles, including cleanliness and preventive maintenance.
- Attend necessary training and pursue continuing education.
- Provide proof of liability insurance and maintain it current.
- Undergo periodic driving tests and demonstrate proficiency in operating a vehicle, including passenger vans. Employees may also use personal vehicles, provided adequate liability coverage is maintained.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, or at least two years of experience working with developmentally disabled individuals.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Language skills sufficient to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; and present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings.
- Mathematical and computer skills: ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret basic graphs.
- Reasoning ability: apply commonsense understanding to follow written, oral, or diagram instructions and interpret varied formats.
- Physical demands: regular use of hands and arms, standing, walking, reaching, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling, and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds; vision requirements include close, color, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
