Summary of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs)

• DSPs teach, supervise, and direct individuals with developmental disabilities in activities of daily living.
• DSPs are similar to Home Health Aides; they assist with feeding, dressing, toileting, and other hygiene needs.
• DSPs assist in providing self‑care training in areas such as cooking, housekeeping, or hygienic practices.
• DSPs administer medications as ordered and document the delivery of each.
• DSPs transport individuals in a personal vehicle on scheduled outings and activities to promote community inclusion.
