Job summary

Kahak Health in Salem, VA is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide hands-on care to individuals with IDD and behavioral health needs. You will support daily living, attend community activities, and help maintain health and safety in home and community settings.

Hours are Monday through Friday 2:30 pm to 7:30 pm and Saturday and Sunday 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with pay at $20 per hour. The role requires compassion, reliability, strong teamwork, and strict adherence to care plans and

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age.
High School Diploma or GED required.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Ability to pass a background check, driving record check, and drug screening.
Ability to lift, transfer, or assist individuals up to 50 lbs (with or without accommodations).

Responsibilities

Assist individuals with personal hygiene, grooming, dressing, and toileting as needed.
Support mobility, transfers, and safe ambulation.
Provide meals, feeding, and adherence to dietary guidelines.
Assist with housekeeping tasks and daily routines.
Support community outings, transportation, and activities.
Monitor health changes and follow safety plans.
Complete daily progress notes and maintain documentation.
Communicate professionally with families, guardians, and healthcare providers.
Apply behavior support plans and use de-escalation techniques as trained.
