Job summary

New Horizon Cares Services LLC in Alaska seeks a Direct Support Professional to assist individuals with developmental disabilities in group homes, assisted living, and community settings. You will help with ADLs, monitor health, follow care plans, and provide companionship.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years or older.
• High School Diploma / GED.
• Background check incl. state clearance and FBI check if applicable.
• Tuberculin testing.
• Physical.
• Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation.
• Experience in caregiving or direct support desirable.
• Familiarity with home health care, including Alzheimer's/dementia care.

• Monitor patient health by checking vital signs and observing changes in behavior or condition.
• Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs and preferences.
• Provide compassionate companionship and engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction.
• Ensure a clean and safe living environment through regular cleaning and maintenance tasks.
• Administer medications as prescribed while adhering to HIPAA regulations for patient confidentiality.
• Support clients with mobility challenges using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and social workers to coordinate comprehensive care.

Experience

• Previous experience in caregiving or direct support roles is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with home health care practices, including Alzheimer's and dementia care.
• Knowledge of first aid and CPR techniques to ensure client safety.
• Experience working with individuals who have autism or other developmental disabilities is preferred.
• Ability to perform heavy lifting tasks as needed for client assistance.
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
