Job summary

The Arc of Central Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama is seeking a Direct Support Professional to provide person-centered support in residential, community, or program settings to promote independence, dignity, and quality of life.

You will assist with daily routines, skill development, health and safety, and community engagement based on individualized plans. A HS diploma or GED is required, with driving eligibility and a valid Alabama license preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Related experience preferred but not required.
• Must be at least 21 years of age for positions requiring driving.
• Valid Alabama driver’s license and insurability by the agency’s insurance.
• Ability to pass pre-employment screening.
• Sign-on Bonus: $500 at 6-months and $500 at 1-year.
• Must be located in the St. Clair County area.

Responsibilities

• Support individuals with daily living activities, routines, and personal care as needed. Implement individualized support plans and promote person-centered goals.
• Assist with meals, housekeeping, transportation, and community participation.
• Observe and document services, progress, and incidents accurately and timely.
• Encourage skill-building, choice, and independence in daily activities.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment.
• Communicate observations and concerns with supervisors and team members.
