Job summary

PEMCO is seeking a Direct Insurance Agent to handle inbound leads, consult with clients, and close policies while representing the PEMCO brand with integrity. The role requires residency in WA, OR, or ID with occasional travel to Seattle headquarters.

You’ll manage onboarding, maintain records, and strive to meet sales targets while staying current on offerings and licensing. Base pay plus commissions fuels performance and growth.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (Business, Liberal Arts) or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years in sales, insurance or financial services.
  • Property/Casualty License.
  • CIC or CPCU designation preferred.
  • Customer first focus and strong communication.
  • Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Knowledge of insurance carrier products and underwriting guidelines.
  • Strong interpersonal, compliance and written/verbal communication.
  • Proven sales track record and ability to negotiate; build relationships.
  • Understanding of the insurance industry landscape and growth trends.
  • Detail oriented with accuracy and thoroughness.

Direct Insurance Agent

PEMCO has a dynamic and challenging opportunity for a Direct Insurance Agent to join our community. Direct Insurance Agents serve as the first point of contact for prospective customers, helping them navigate their insurance needs and matching them with the right products. They handle inbound leads, actively follow‑up with prospects, consult with clients, and close sales while representing the PEMCO brand with integrity and enthusiasm.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Handle inbound calls and warm leads – no cold calling required.
  • Follow‑up with prospects via outbound activities including phone calls, emails, and text.
  • Consult with prospects and customers to assess their insurance needs.
  • Recommend appropriate coverage options and explain product benefits.
  • Convert leads into policies through persuasive communication.
  • Facilitate a structured onboarding journey that helps new customers understand their next steps and ensures timely completion of all required actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of customer interactions and sales.
  • Meet or exceed monthly sales targets and performance metrics.
  • Stay current on product offerings, licensing requirements, and industry trends.
  • Address customer complaints, providing empathetic and effective solutions to maintain high customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrate behaviors consistent with PEMCO’s policies, values, code of ethics, and business conduct.

What You’ll Bring
  • B.A. or B.S. degree (Business, Liberal Arts) or equivalent work experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in sales, insurance industry and/or financial services roles.
  • Property/Casualty License.
  • Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and/or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation preferred.
  • Customer First focus: relentless focus on the customer and deep understanding of their challenges.
  • MS Office: skilled proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook.
  • Comprehensive understanding of insurance carrier products, policy contracts, and underwriting guidelines.
  • Interpersonal skills & empathy: builds relationships internally and externally and gets results through influence.
  • Compliance: knowledge and understanding of relevant laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Communicator: ability to communicate clearly and informatively, verbally and in writing, in both technical and non‑technical professional language.
  • Sales: proven track record of revenue growth and sales success through negotiation; builds long‑term customer relationships.
  • Business environment: thorough understanding of our industry, relevant business landscape, trends in growth and insurance environments; ability to spot early indicators of change and adapt quickly.
  • Precision: detail‑oriented and strongly focused on accuracy and thoroughness.
Compensation

The pay range for this role is shown below. Compensation decisions are determined based on an individual’s qualifications, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience.

  • Greater Seattle area target pay range: $72,237–$88,289. Full pay range: $60,197–$100,329.
  • Outside greater Seattle area target pay range: $63,750–$77,916. Full pay range: $53,125–$88,541.

Greater Seattle Area is defined as working within approximately 100 miles of Seattle.

Outside Greater Seattle is defined as working approximately 100 miles or more from Seattle.

In addition to the base pay, all direct insurance agents are eligible for commission pay, currently up to 10% on eligible written premiums. The plan includes production‑level tiers with increasing commission payout percentages as premium production increases.

Benefits

Regular part‑time PEMCO employees working at least 24 hours per week and regular full‑time PEMCO employees are eligible to elect coverage under medical, dental, and vision plans for themselves and their eligible family members with generous employer premium cost shares. As a benefits‑eligible employee you are also:

  • Covered by employer‑paid basic life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance policies as well as long‑ and short‑term disability benefit coverages.
  • Eligible to participate in PEMCO’s 401(k) plan, which includes a generous employer match (2 for 1 on the first 6% employee pre‑tax and/or Roth deferral, up to federal maximums).

PEMCO provides the following paid leave programs for benefits‑eligible employees in their first year of PEMCO employment:

  • Vacation accrues at a rate of 10 days for new hires and increases to a maximum of 25 days based on tenure.
  • Granted four personal days immediately upon hire.
  • Paid holidays for the eight holidays observed by PEMCO throughout the calendar year.
  • Granted up to ten days of sick leave immediately upon hire (pro‑rated based on hire date and full‑time/part‑time status), approximately 28 hours more per year than Washington state‑required accrual.
  • Paid time off for bereavement, jury duty, and employee volunteering in the community.
