Job summary

CooperRiis is seeking a Direct Care Garden/Horticulture Crew Leader in Mill Spring, NC to lead the Garden Crew and manage daily garden activities, supporting residents’ recovery through meaningful engagement and productivity.

The role requires coordinating with recovery teams, attending planning meetings, and ensuring garden health while supervising staff and interns. Expect a physically active, on-site position with company benefits and growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• Education in botany, gardening, farming or related life/work experience.
• Experience working with adults coping with significant mental health challenges preferred.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical tasks.
• Must be 21+ with an acceptable driving record for company car insurance.

Responsibilities

• Leads the Garden Crew and coordinates daily garden tasks.
• Collaborates with residents’ recovery teams when assistance is needed.
• Attends Recovery Planning meetings to support residents.
• Documents information in the resident’s health record and communicates with the team.
• Provides guidance and leadership to staff and interns in the garden.
• Coordinates with kitchen about garden produce availability.
• Maintains health of fields and gardens and plans annual garden rotations.
• Monitors supplies and places seed/live plant orders as per plan.
• Maintains facilities and reports issues to the CWS team.
• Ensures a safe, clean, and orderly work environment.

Direct Care Garden/Horticulture Crew Leader

The Direct Care Garden Crew Leader responsibilities include leading the Garden Crew and coordinating all garden activities. This position supports residents’ recovery by helping them restore a sense of engagement, productivity, and contribution.

Location: Mill Spring, NC

Pay: Starts at $20.00 per hour and increases based on experience

Responsibilities:

• Leads the CWS garden program, organizes daily tasks for the crew, with a variety of options to meet resident needs
• Collaborates with members of residents’ recovery teams when assistance or more support is needed for a resident
• Attends Recovery Planning meetings and other meetings to support the residents
• Documents information in the resident’s electronic health record and/or communicated to the resident’s team
• Provides guidance and leadership to support staff and interns assigned to the garden
• Coordinates with the kitchen about what produce is available in the garden.
• Manages and maintains the health of the fields and gardens
• Collaborates with the CWS Program Manger to develop the annual garden plan and future crop rotations
• Monitors and maintains supplies for the garden and the garden crew
• Places seed and live plant orders in line with annual garden plan
• Monitors fences, buildings, and equipment. Repairs small damages and reports any issues that cannot be resolved by the CWS team
• Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work environment

Qualifications:

• Education in a related field or equivalent life/work experience in botany, gardening, farming
• Experience working with adults coping with significant mental health challenges preferred
• Ability to work in various weather, be moving, lifting, and bending for extended periods of time, and lift up to 50 pounds consistently
• At least 21 years of age or older with an acceptable driving record to be on company car insurance
