Job summary

CooperRiis in Mill Spring, NC is hiring a Direct Care Garden/Horticulture Crew Leader to guide the garden crew and coordinate daily activities, supporting residents’ recovery through meaningful engagement and productive work.

This role leads the garden program, collaborates with recovery teams, maintains the gardens, and ensures a safe, clean work environment. Pay starts at $20 per hour with PTO, life insurance, a company match retirement plan, and free meals on shift.

Qualifications

• Education in a related field or equivalent life/work experience in botany, gardening, farming.
• Experience working with adults coping with significant mental health challenges preferred.
• Ability to work in various weather, be moving, lifting, and bending for extended periods of time, and lift up to 50 pounds consistently.
• At least 21 years of age or older with an acceptable driving record to be on company car insurance.

Responsibilities

• Leads the CWS garden program, organizes daily tasks for the crew, with a variety of options to meet resident needs
• Collaborates with members of residents’ recovery teams when assistance or more support is needed for a resident
• Attends Recovery Planning meetings and other meetings to support the residents
• Documents information in the resident’s electronic health record and/or communicated to the resident’s team
• Provides guidance and leadership to support staff and interns assigned to the garden
• Coordinates with the kitchen about what produce is available in the garden.
• Manages and maintains the health of the fields and gardens
• Collaborates with the CWS Program Manger to develop the annual garden plan and future crop rotations
• Monitors and maintains supplies for the garden and the garden crew
• Places seed and live plant orders in line with annual garden plan
• Monitors fences, buildings, and equipment. Repairs small damages and reports any issues that cannot be resolved by the CWS team
• Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly work environment
